Yet another celebrity death. This one closer to my heart than most, as a long time Star Wars fan.

Star Wars has been a part of my life since I was 7. It was Star Wars that took the traditional "damsel in distress" figure, and turned her into a decisive leader, and a person who leads from the front, laser rifle in hand, berating her rescuers for their lack of a plan.

That figure, Princess Leia Organa, was realised by Carrie Fisher, taking the role from haughty but innocent white clad princess, to metal-bikini clad sex icon, to the sad but dignified leader of the latest movie in the series.

Outside of her movie character, Fisher battled with challenges and addictions, but always maintained a strong wit and sense of humour.

Sorry to say, but Debbie Reynolds, Carrie's mum, has also passed away. A stroke apparently.

Yep Martin, if you watch with the prequels Lucas pretty much spells out the whole gloomy-nati plan, if you know what to look for. Never watched Clone Wars but apparently that's an eye opener too.

I absolutely loved The Force Awakens despite all the tin foil hat drama surrounding it, best not to take everything too seriously. Was nice to see Ford and Fisher again.

Yes, a lot of unleavened folk roll their eyes at Star Wars, but in the context of the 70s it really was breaking new ground, and Lucas got bolder with his whistleblowing for those seeking the analogies to current events in the evolving plot.

And then there's the metal bikini. Illuminati plots be damned, Carrie was smoking' hot in that getup!

Sigh...

I know, tragic loss!!!!

Bizarre the amount of true talent leaving the earth plane these days.

Watched the original Star Wars recently and it yes really struck me what a strong role model she was. When you watch other movies of the era its all sickening hopeless Barbies needing to be rescued. Victim programming pukesville.

And she retained a classy femininity in the character too...ahh the pigtail buns and the lippy :-) None of that scary "Ripley" nonsense with Carrie Fisher.

Remember watching SW about 7 times in a row at the movies when it came out. Spent the rest of my life explaining, no I'm NOT a lesbian, some girls are just GOOD at science and welding.

Tempted to blow the dust off the ole DVD. Might get the hairspray out too, time to give that hair a bit of a twirl...bit old for the gold bikini now tho, hmmm.
