the stuff we got didnt melt . it was powdery and dry even through 4-5 days of 40-50 degree weather and tons of rain after .the stuff that was packed down by traffic and foot print solidified and became slick ,but didnt contain alot of water content ,and the stuff that didnt get packed down remained powdery to the touch ,dry feeling ,and left a residual feeling on the hands and remained very cold to the touch after days of warmth like a chemical freeze .the pond froze but not clear like ice ,it was a white gray color and seemed to dry out from under itself as if it contained a drying agent .the small amounts of water that would come from the melted snow ,like to put some in a container and wait endlessly for it to melt ,resulted in a liquid resembling water but having a thickness to it .pretty much killed off any and all plant life .the first day of the big snow here in beaverton oregon resulted in children and adults alike playing in it ,building snowmen ,large dogs trumping through it ,small dogs being buried in it as they tried to hop through it .no wildlife to be seen whatsoever until day 3 where the coyotes searched endlessly for food .even the birds seemed to disappear.after the first 2 days ,though there was plenty of untouched snow to play in ,no one was outside.most all of my neighbors have been switched out for immigrants here ,so the language barrier prevents me from knowing if everyone here got sick after playing in the snow ,but friends i have ,they were all sick ,some are still sick since that snow fell.

Sometime this stuff is nucleated snow....or the "New snow"

which, when scrunched into a snow ball and held over a flame....

turns black and emits a smoke that smells of plastic.

Just another happy thought.

Blame it on global warming. Just a freak one-off anomalous weather event of course...

quote from the article

"There were no signs of more snow-making conditions in the coming week, as Coutts said the South Island would settle back in to a westerly and southwesterly pattern from Monday, meaning "spring-like" weather. "
