A Glimpse of Hell: The Peshtigo Wisconsin Fire of 1871

My reasons for this posting: 1. I never knew of this fire until I moved to Green Bay in 1967. 2. I visited Russia in 1992 and was approached by a group of women who cleaned, loomed, spun, dyed and wove or knit their own local wool into blankets or garments. They told me the story of the Peshtigo fire and that aide came from Russia in the form of woolen blankets. They wanted to repay that kindness. I distributed blankets to several wonderful, good hearted people in Kurgan Siberia, and Moscow when I went there. 3. The historic description of the fire behavior by witnesses seems pertinent considering the recent California fires. 4. I believe in promoting truth, compassion, peace.   peshtigo fire
