Sarah- Micro burst is a common term used in the US for localized very strong sudden downdraft winds.   Usually associated with large variations in temperature of air masses that collide (like the extreme arctic blasts that have hit the SE US this year).  Same conditions that produce strong thunderstorms, tornadoes, etc.

Micro burst? Is that a new term? Lazar shot sounds more believable!
